One of the most common mistakes leaders make is assuming their team members are motivated by the same things they are. The Management Drives framework offers a powerful lens for understanding the deep values that drive behaviour at work.

One of the most common mistakes leaders make is assuming their team members are motivated by the same things they are. The Management Drives framework offers a powerful lens for understanding the deep values that drive behaviour at work.

Management Drives identifies six core drives that influence how people approach their work, their relationships, and their decision-making. Understanding these drives — in yourself and in others — transforms how you lead, communicate, and build teams.

For example, someone with a high "efficiency" drive will be deeply uncomfortable with ambiguity and process inefficiency. Someone driven by "people" will prioritise harmony and relationships above task completion. Neither is right or wrong — but misunderstanding these differences leads to friction and disengagement.

As a certified Management Drives practitioner, I use this framework with individuals and teams to unlock deeper self-understanding and more effective collaboration. The results consistently surprise even the most experienced leaders.
